Deolinda

Deolinda is a Portuguese quartet band founded in 2006 when the brothers Pedro da Silva Martins and Luis Jose Martins (formerly of the band 7-Headed Beast) invited their cousin, Ana Bacalhau, who was then singing with the band Lupanar, to sing four songs they had written. When they realized that her voice perfectly fit the lyrics and melodies they had created, they also invited Jose Pedro Leitao, the bass player with Lupanar and currently Ana Bacalhau's husband, to join them creating Deolinda.
The band's style can be described as inspired by fado, however it differs substantially from that traditional Portuguese music genre. For instance, Deolinda does not use the Portuguese guitar as fado would dictate. Also, their songs and lyrics are not serious and fatalistic like classic fados: instead, they largely use humor, irony (often against fado itself) and a fast, happy pace.
When performing live, members of Deolinda do not dress in black as traditional fado players do.
Their second album, "Dois Selos e Um Carimbo" (Two Stamps and a Seal), released in April 2010, hit the Portuguese charts at #1.
